Rufina device for care homes
Concept design

Rufina · Pilot Programme 2026

Rufina doesn’t replace the family: she brings it back.

An AI voice companion for care homes. No touchscreens or menus to learn: you simply talk to her.

As simple as that

You use it by talking. That’s all.

01

Call her by name

Just say «Rufina».

02

Speak normally

No special words, sitting up or from bed.

03

Rufina answers, and also takes the initiative

She says good morning and chats whenever the person needs it.

A presence that adds

More moments of connection. More life shared.

Active mind

Memory exercises based on the resident’s own life; every memory helps build their biography.

Body in motion

If the resident agrees, she suggests gentle exercise routines at different levels. Care professionals define and supervise the activities.

Daily company

She says good morning when she detects the resident is up, asks how they slept and chats whenever they need it.

Family present

If the resident says they are feeling low, she suggests calling or inviting the family and offers ideas for what to talk about.

Their memories, their decision

My Legacy: a purpose, not just a pastime.

Rufina does more than entertain: she gives residents a reason to talk. Every conversation helps build the resident’s biography, which can become a printed book for their children and grandchildren, so that those who come after can learn from their life. The resident decides who can see their wellbeing summaries and what happens to their biography: read it now, after their death, or delete it.

Privacy by design

Data will be processed on servers located in the European Union, encrypted and designed for GDPR compliance. Rufina has no camera, and every device includes a physical privacy switch. In a second phase, care homes that wish to will be able to install a local server on their own premises.

Technology with judgement

Technology keeps company. Care remains human.

Rufina is not a medical device: she does not diagnose, treat or prevent any illness, and she does not replace healthcare or care professionals.

In care homes, medication is always handled by the specialised staff. For older adults living on their own at home, Rufina can be set up to remind them of their medication times.

Peace of mind

A large SOS button alerts the care home staff. Rufina’s sensor, with no images, alerts staff if something seems wrong: for example, if there has been no movement in the room for longer than usual.

She doesn’t replace staff: she supports them.

Rufina always works under the supervision of the care home’s professionals. They set up the activities and receive the alerts; Rufina gives them more time for what only a person can do.

Our story

Why she is called Rufina

Rufina was the aunt of one of the founders of Lavetia Solutions. Whenever her niece was ill, Rufina was the one who sat by her bed, told her about her life and made sure she never felt alone. When Rufina grew older, she was the one who needed company. This project carries her name: it is our way of giving back that care to many older people, and of making sure their stories are not lost.
